Old Pensipple Farm is a 200 year old collection of three barns. The client was having problems with damp, condensation and slipped slates. Upon removal of the roof coverings, it was evident that nearly all existing timbers had suffered wet rot and beetle infestation.
After a meeting with the surveyors and the owners, it was decided to remove all the roof timbers and cut in a complete new roof on all three barns before re-slating.
Using new treated timbers, including wall plates, rafters, purlins, hips and ridge boards, we re-framed all three barns. These were fitted with new breather membrane, treated battens, re-slated using natural slate and we installed a vented Dry Ridge system.
All three roofs are now structurally sound, free from damp and water ingress. The natural slate is in keeping with the period of the building, and with local conservation.
